Slednje sta že vrnili Irska in Španija. Varčevalni ukrepi in reforme so bili med seboj precej podobni. Vsebovali so varčevanje v javnem sektorju, zmanjšanje socialnih transferjev, reforme na področju fiskalne politike, izboljšanje konkurenčnosti, pospeševanje gospodarstva in zmanjšanje zadolženosti ter deficita tekočega računa. Ostale reforme so izhajale iz specifičnih potreb posamezne države. Še zmeraj pa so v krizi ostale države. Posebej problematični sta Italija in Grčija, saj se jima stanje gospodarstva ponovno slabša.

Title:Reforms in PIIGS Countries
Abstract:The global financial crisis launched in 2008, and left consequences on economies for even some years after the beginning of the crisis. Eurozone was the most affected. Global financial crisis created domino effect. Economies fell one after another. So global financial crisis transformed in Eurozone crisis. In this paper we are focusing on economies that were most affected: Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain. Through research, we found three main reasons for crisis in PIIGS countries: the real estate bubble in Ireland and Spain, large debt and deficit in Greece and Italy and economic turndown in Portugal. Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain also received bailout from European Union, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund. Ireland and Spain already exited the bailout program. Austerity measures and reforms implemented by countries are similar. They included cutting expenditures in public sector and welfare, fiscal policy reforms, gaining competitiveness, prompting economic growth, lowering debt and deficit. Other austerity measures and reform are result of the specifics in each county. The crisis is over in Spain and Ireland but other countries are still dealing with it. The troubled ones are Italy and Greece since their economy is getting worse.
