Najboljše rezultate smo dobili, ko smo kompostno izcedno vodo obdelali z mešanico zeolita (80 g/l), aktivnega oglja (50 g/l) in apna (pH=10).

Title:METAL REMOVAL FROM COMPOST LEACHATE USING ZEOLITE
Abstract:The purpose of this study was to remove heavy metals from compost leachate using zeolite, activated carbon and lime. In this thesis, we tried to find a suitable and economical way to clean the compost leachate so that it may be discharged into natural waterways. Our goal was to achieve less than 0,5 mg/l of Cu2+ and less than 2 mg/l of Zn2+ in the compost leachate. We measured the physico-chemical parameters: pH, content of Zn2+ and Cu2+, total organic carbon and total nitrogen. Analyses have shown that it is crucial to filter compost leachate, since larger particles can clog the pores and surface of zeolite and reduce metal removal efficieny. The best results were obtained when Zn2+ was removed from the compost leachate with mixture of zeolite (80 g/l), activated carbon (50 g/l) and lime (pH=10). In doing so, Zn2+ content in the compost leachate decreased by 80,4 % from 2,71 mg/l to 0,53 mg/l. Compost leachate has contained small concentrations of Cu2+ (0,21 mg/l). Cu2+ was most effectively removed from compost leachate using mixture of zeolite (80 g/l) and lime (pH=10). In doing so, the Cu2+ content decreased from 0,23 mg/l to 0,08 mg/l, which represents a 65% reduction. Analyses have shown that centrifugation and sedimentation have similar effects on Cu2+ and Zn2+ removal efficiency. We have found out that pH and concentration of adsorbent have a significant impact on the removal efficiency of Cu2+ and Zn2+ from compost leachate. At pH=9 and 40 g/l of zeolite, Zn2+ content decreased by 77 % and Cu2+ by 22 %, while at pH=10 and 80 g/l of zeolite, Zn2+ was reduced by 81 % and Cu2+ content by 65%. The results showed that zeolite does not have an impact on the reduction of total organic carbon in compost leachate (room T) and that they reduce total nitrogen content by 20 %.
