Abstract:Demenci se zadnja leta aktivno posvečajo na Ministrstvu za zdravje in na Ministrstvu za delo, družino, socialne zadeve in enake možnosti.

Title:Employee education in nursing homes regional unit Ravne na Koroškem
Abstract:The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities has been actively dedicated to dementia in recent years. Ministry of Labour has issued guidelines for working with people with dementia in institutional care. A more prominent place is given to dementia in the Resolution on the National Social Assistance Programme for the period of 2013—2020. The Ministry of Health has put the Strategy of Restraining Dementia to public debate in Slovenia by 2020. In the theoretical part of the thesis we presented the concept of human resources development, which is directly related to the training of employees. Education contributes to increased productivity and quality of work, which is very important for the success of the organization. Furthermore we describe the education of employees in social care, where we focus on homes for the elderly, as the proportion of older people increases, and thus the proportion of people living with dementia. Working with people with dementia is taking place more slowly and must be adapted to their needs and abilities, so it is important to determine how much knowledge the employees have, to work with the ailing elderly. With the research in nursing homes in the regional unit Ravne na Koroškem we concluded that the most employees have medium expertise working with people with dementia, despite the fact that most have daily contact with them. Here we detect the problem of employees having insufficient knowledge when working with people with dementia, which is why we propose as a solution an ongoing education of all employees in nursing homes, that are in contact with people with dementia.
