Keywords:Paul Auster, postmodernizem, metafikcija, intertekstualnost.

Title:POSTMODERN TECHNIQUES IN PAUL AUSTER`S SELECTED WORKS
Abstract:In my diploma work I focused on postmodern techniques in selected works of American author Paul Auster. Postmodernism is a literary movement that started after 1960 and lasted until the Nineties. Techniques that are used in postmodern literature are: metafiction, intertextuality, fabulation, mixing of high and popular culture. These techniques existed long before postmodernism, but in postmodern texts they are used to show the absence of any objective truth. Paul Auster is seen as a prominent figure of an American postmodernism, mainly because of his first book The New York Trilogy. The New York Trilogy consists of three short novels and all three are variations of a classic detective story. Postmodern elements also appear in his other novels, but not to such a degree as in The New York Trilogy. This change of style and deviation of postmodernism is especially seen in his novel The Brooklyn Follies.
Keywords:Paul Auster, postmodernism, metafiction, intertextuality.
