Osnovni konfiguraciji obeh sistemov sta bili enaki, uporabili smo enake podatke (količinsko in vsebinsko) in enaka poročila. Rezultati primerjalnega testiranja pokažejo glavne razlike obeh tehnologij in prednosti baze podatkov v pomnilniku. Hitrost priprave poročil se nekajkrat izboljša. Poleg veliko boljše uporabniške izkušnje (kratki odzivni časi) so velike prednosti tudi pri enostavnejšem upravljanju in vzdrževanju. Enostavnejši modeli podatkov olajšajo upravljanje in vzdrževanje sistema, poenostavijo prenos podatkov in omogočajo izdelavo poročil, ki so z uporabo relacijske baze podatkov težko izvedljiva. V naslednjih letih bomo verjetno priča velikim spremembam in poenostavitvam poslovnih rešitev. Baze podatkov v pomnilniku so po nekaterih ocenah eden večjih mejnikov v razvoju informacijskih rešitev.

Title:UPGRADE TO IN-MEMORY DATABASE – SAP HANA EXAMPLE
Abstract:The main advantage of In-memory database is the way how data is stored. Old hard discs are not used any more. The main storage is in memory (RAM). Data access times could be much faster compared to hard discs. Because of the fast access times, there is no need to apply strict filtering. All additional objects created in the past to achieve required speed (aggregates, indexes) are not needed any more. In-memory databases use columnar type of storing data in the main memory. With this technique data are access very fast. The other benefit is the compression of the database. Faster data access times were confirmed with an experiment. We compered several reports, run on two similar systems – one on a classical relational database and the other on in-memory database. All the other system and data characteristics were the same. Results of the experiment show the difference in real operation. We discovered in-memory database was several times faster than relational database. With implementation of simpler database design, administrative tasks are simpler or not needed any more. In-memory databases are started to be used in standard ERP solution too. They would probably be a basis for a simplifying of those solutions – the same happened in the area of business intelligence in the past. In-memory databases could be one of the milestones in the future information technology development.
