V teoretičnem delu diplomske naloge smo predstavili zvrstnost slovenskega in angleškega jezika, opredelili povezovanje evropskih držav v zgodovini in institucije, delujoče v Evropski uniji danes, predstavili nekatere teorije prevajanja in opredelili prevajanje strokovnih besedil, še posebej pravnih. Prevajalci v vmesni jezik niso naravni govorci jezika, v katerega so prevajali.

Title:The Impact of the Adequacy of the Pivot Language (English) on the Translator's Work: Translating for the European Union's Institutions
Abstract:Joint legislation of the countries united in the European Union brings about new challenges for a large number of experts involved in its preparation. Among experts, who greatly contribute to successful and above all appropriate implementation of joint legislation in individual countries, are also translators, who provide for accurate and particularly in terms of terminology coherent translations. In the theoretical part of the thesis we presented the typology of Slovenian and English languages, defined the integration of European countries through history and institutions operating in the European Union today, presented certain translation theories and defined the translation of technical texts, particularly legal. The practical part of the thesis includes an analysis of examples from the author's own particle. We used texts published at the website TRIS as examples. We mostly analysed them at semantic and stylistic levels, given that it is in this area where greatest deviations and also errors occur. Peter Newmark (2000: 19) wrote in the Introduction of the Textbook of Translation: „I shall assume that you, the reader, are learning to translate into your language of habitual use, since that is the only way you can translate naturally, accurately and with maximum effectiveness. In fact, however, most translators do translate out of their own language (service translation) and contribute greatly to many people's hilarity in the process.” The thought of Peter Newmark presents the essence of problem we've encountered in analysing examples selected for this thesis and which translator and proof-readers face on a daily basis. The translators in the pivot language aren't native speakers of the language they are translating into.
