Title:The functioning of the Slovenian people's party in 1927 as presented in some of the slovenian newspapers
Abstract:In my diploma work I have analysed the functioning of the Slovenian People's Party in 1927 as presented in Slovenec and Jutro newspapers as well as in other literature. 1927 was the year of three elections: the first and the only one to Administrative Unit Assemblies, the second ones for the representatives to the national parliament and the third ones were to municipal councils which were in progress throughout the year. In February Administrative unit self-government began and after winning the elections, Slovenian People's Party got a leading role in them. The Party was at the peak of its strength. Its leader Dr. Anton Korošec even took the party from the opposition to the government coalition. The Party entered the government twice that year, for the first time already in February. The Bled agreement, signed by dr. Anton Korošec for Slovenian People's Party and Velimir Vukičević for National Radical Party, brought a major change in the functioning of the Slovenian People's Party. Due to the agreement, Slovenian People's Party renounced their demand for autonomy and recognized the Vidovdan Constitution. In the second half of the year the on-going dispute in the Party was made public, which caused a severe breakup between the left Christian Socialists and the right wing which could never be restored.
Keywords:Slovenian's People Party, elections, Administrative Unit Assemblies, government entry, Bled agreement.
