Title:NON-DESTRUCTIVE EXAMINATION OF CONCRETE - DEVELOPING A GUIDE FOR VISUAL EXAMINATION OF THE STATUS OF CONCRETE STRUCTURES AT NUCLEAR FACILITIES
Abstract:Structures and objects at nuclear power plants must be preserved to ensure safety, prevent the collapse of these objects, to maintain their long-term use and sustainability in accordance with NEK specifications for construction and operating, and to allow plant lifetime extension (NEK Technical Specifications). To fulfill these conditions, maintenance personnel use periodic preventive control techniques for monitoring objects, ensuring that potential damage is identified before it becomes relevant. Visual examination represents one of these techniques. As part of our thesis, a guide has been designed to help us decide, if the extent of damage can impact structure integrity. The guide will be formed as checklist and will guide the inspector through visual examination. Based on results, the inspector will be able to make an informed decision on whether to begin restoration or to contact an authorized institution to further evaluate the damage. In the end, we analyze the practical use of the guide.
