Abstract:Namen diplomskega dela z naslovom Liki z obrobja družbe v kratki prozi Tomaža Kosmača je bil predstaviti avtorja in njegovo delo, definirati pojma marginalec in marginalne družbene skupine, pojasniti vpliv družbenega okolja na pojavnost marginalnih likov v slovenski literaturi, analizirati like z obrobja družbe v Kosmačevih zbirkah kratke proze in povzeti jezikovne ter slogovne značilnosti zbirk Driska, Žalostno, toda resnično in Punk is dead.

Title:Characters from the margins of society in the short prose of Tomaž Kosmač
Abstract:The purpose of the diploma thesis titled Characters from the Margins of Society in the Short Prose of Tomaž Kosmač was to present the author and his work, to define the term marginalised person and marginalised social groups, to explain the effect of the social environment on the appearance of marginal characters in Slovenian literature, to analyse characters from the margins of society in Kosmač’s short prose collections, and to summarise the linguistic and stylistic features of the Driska (Diarrhea), Žalostno, toda resnično (Sad but True), and Punk is dead collections. Our analysis has shown that male characters from the margins of society prevail in the stories in all three of Kosmač’s short prose collections, with the characters of a bohemian artist, an alcoholic, and an idler being at the forefront. Among the female characters from the margins of society, the character of the drunk again prevails. The central marginal character of all three collections is the protagonist Kosmo, through whom the relationships and relations between the characters and their attitude towards the broader social environment are revealed. This attitude is special due to the rebellious stance of the central character against the established and valid social norms such as full-time employment, partnership, and family ties. In this respect, Kosmač’s writing is close to the characteristics of literature that describes characters from the fringes of society and the so-called beatnik movement, which have also been specifically emphasised in the diploma thesis.
Keywords:Tomaž Kosmač, margins of society, marginalised person, alcoholic, idler, bohemian artist, irony.
