Title:The Role of Slovenian Foster Care Society in the Foster Care System
Abstract:The foster care system in Slovenia has an important role in ensuring social security for children which are, due to various reasons, unable to live with their biological family. In this diploma thesis we first defined the basic notions of foster care, such as biological family, foster family, foster carer and child in foster care. Following this the foster care system in the past is described. In the next phase we thoroughly studied the Provision of Foster Care Act, the role of the Social Work Centre and the work of the Foster Care Society. The empirical part of the diploma thesis deals with the answer to the question how can the Foster Care Society contribute to a more efficient foster care system in Slovenia. In order to do this, we carried out ten interviews with foster carers, where they presented their view on the advantages and disadvantages of the present foster care system, on which areas do they need additional help and which present solutions are in their opinion good. Based on the analysis of the gathered data we came to a conclusion, that the Foster Care Society has an important role in ensuring a good foster care system, because it represents an important link between the foster carers, Social Work Centres and the empowered ministry. The Foster Care Society, among others, adverts to the difficulties in the foster care system, binds foster families, educates, informs, offers psychotherapeutic help to children in foster care in co-operates with schools. We thus defined the basic guidelines for the work of the Foster Care Society in the future and at the same time we offered concrete solutions to Social Work Centres for the problems arising at implementing foster care.
