Abstract:V diplomski nalogi je predstavljeno stremljenje dveh nasprotujočih si dinastij po svetovni slavi in prevladi nad južno Italijo in Sicilijo v dvanajstem stoletju. Predstavljena so spoznanja, kako pride do temeljnega boja v zadnji generaciji obeh rodbin, kjer se krog sklene z zmago preko stoletja začrtane zamisli nemških vladarjev in prenehanjem normanske vladavine.

Title:THE EMPEROR HENRY VI. AND THE SOUTHERN ITALY
Abstract:The tendency of the two opposing dynasties to gain the world glory and domination over southern Italy and Sicily in the 12th century is presented in the diploma thesis. The north of Italy was under the control of the German king, while the south of the peninsula was ruled by the Normans. A branch of conquerors who managed to conquer the entire Sicily separated from the Norman conquerors. Under the Hauteville family, the Norman areas in Puglia, Calabria and Sicily were merged. They were the silent force coming from the south and a few generations later they faced a family who appeared at about the same time on the northern side of the Alps: the Hohenstaufen, an important noble family which gave several dukes and Roman-German kings and emperors. Among them was also Henry VI who continued his father's policy and with a well-thought (politically) arranged wedding hoped to be the next to sit on the Norman throne. However, getting there was much more difficult than he had expected it to be. The basic purpose of this thesis is to present the struggle of the two dynasties from two different territories to gain power over southern Italy and Sicily. The thesis presents the findings on how the central struggle in the last generation of both families took place and how the circle was closed with the victory of the German rulers that had been outlined for more than a century and the end of Norman rule.
