Abstract:	Teoretična izhodišča: Parodontalna bolezen je vnetje obzobnih tkiv in če ni zdravljena vodi v izgubo zob. S skrbno ustno higieno napredovane paradontoze ne moremo pozdraviti, lahko pa preprečimo njeno napredovanje.V diplomskem delu smo se opredelili predvsem na problem vzdrževanja ustne higiene. Namreč veliko pacientov ne pozna pravilnih postopkov vzdrževanja ustne higiene in nimajo motivacije za njihovo izvajanje, ravno tako se ne zavedajo pomembnosti rednih obiskov zobozdravnika, zato jih je potrebno poučiti o pomembnosti le- tega že pred samim zdravljenjem, da bi lahko bilo njihovo zdravljenje uspešno. Tu ima pomembno vlogo zobozdravstveno-vzgojno delo medicinske sestre. Namen: Z raziskavo smo želeli ugotoviti težave na področju vzdrževanja ustne higiene s parodontalno boleznijo in poznavanje vplivov in dejavnikov tveganja za nastanek paradontalne bolezni. Metodologija raziskovanja: Raziskava je temeljila na kvantitativni metodologiji z uporabo anketnega vprašalnika, ki je vseboval tako odprti kot zaprti tip vprašanj. Raziskovalni vzorec je zajemal 50 naključno izbranih pacientov s paradontalno boleznijo v eni izmed zobnih ambulant v Sloveniji. Rezultati: Rezultati raziskave so pokazali, da je vzdrževanje ustne higiene eden iz med glavnih dejavnikov tveganja, kjer pacienti nimajo dovolj znanja o pravilnih tehnikah ščetkanja in vzdrževanju ustne higiene. Ugotovili smo, da pacienti ne poznajo dovolj dejavnikov tveganja in vplivov za nastanek paradontalne bolezni. Rezultati nam dokazujejo potrebo po zobozdravstveno- vzgojnem delu medicinske sestre. Sklep: Zaradi ne znanja o pravilnem vzdrževanju ustne higiene in ne poznavanju dejavnikov tveganja je pomembno zdravstveno-vzgojno delo s strani zdravstvenih delavcev. Paciente je potrebno poučiti o pravilnem vzdrževanju ustne higiene in jih motivirati za izvajanje ustne higiene. Ravno tako je paciente potrebno poučiti o vplivih in dejavnikih tveganja za nastanek paradontalne bolezni.

Title:	MAINTENANCE OF ORAL HYGENE IN THE TREATMENT OF PERIDONTAL DESEASE
Abstract:	Theoretical grounds: Periodontal disease is an inflammation of the gum line and if left untreated it can lead to teeth becoming so loose that they have to be extracted or they simply fall out. Having good teeth hygiene does not heal an advanced form of the disease but it can prevent it from progressing. This diploma thesis is focused mainly on the issue of proper oral hygiene. There are a number of patients who are not aware of the proper ways needed to maintain good oral hygiene and who also lack the motivation for caring for their teeth to keep them healthy. They also do not understand the importance of having regular dental care and therefore need to be informed on that issue before starting with the execution of the needed treatment, so that the treatment can have the best results possible. A dental nurse plays a crucial role in educating patients on all aspects of dental care. Purpose: The main goal of the research was to establish the main causes connected to oral hygiene and periodontal disease, as well as to learn about factors that increase the risks leading to periodontal disease. Research methodology: The research was based on the quantitative methodology by using questionnaire survey containing both open-ended and closed-ended questions. The studying sample compressed of fifty patients suffering from periodontal disease that were chosen at random in one of Slovenia`s dental clinics. Results: By studying the results of the research we have established that maintaining a good oral hygiene is one of the main risk factors, as the patients are not educated on the proper ways of brushing their teeth and maintaining good oral hygiene. The patients are not aware of the risk factors and influences leading to periodontal disease. The results put an emphasis on the important role that a dental nurse plays in the process. Resolution: Health care professionals have a very important role in educating people on the right ways needed for maintaining good oral hygiene, as there is a lack of that among patients, as well as a lack of understanding risk factors. Patients must be informed on the right methods of maintaining good oral hygiene, they also need to be motivated for carrying these methods out. It is crucial to teach them about the biggest risk factors and influences leading to periodontal disease.
