Title:THE IMPORTANCE OF FLUIDS IN A HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT OF PRESCHOOL CHILDREN
Abstract:In the theoretical part of the diploma thesis The importance of fluids for the healthy development of a preschool child we focused at first on the development and characteristics of a preschool child and then we presented the scientific knowledge about the most common beverages consumed by children. We researched the influences of different types of drinks on the child's health. The greatest emphasis was placed on water, which regulates a lot of processes in our bodies and is important for the child's growth and development. We also pointed out how inappropriate it is for the preschool children to consume carbonated drinks. In the empirical part we obtained data with the descriptive non-experimental method of empirical pedagogical research on the frequency and quantity of daily fluid intake in children, the participation of children when choosing drinks and their habits of drinking fluids in the evening. We questioned the parents of 100 children that attend the kindergarten in Slovenj Gradec by using questionnaires with close-ended questions. The results show that the parents are familiar with the appropriate amount of drinks that should be consumed by children on a daily basis and that they offer children free access and choice in drinks. Children mostly co-decide on purchases of beverages they drink, are able to express their desire to drink and get the drinks by themselves when they are thirsty. It has been proven that the parents when checking the menus of their children are more focused on the food part than the beverages part of the menu.
