Title:Education influence on religiosity dimensions
Abstract:The foremost objective of this thesis is to analyze the correlation that exists between education and religiosity in Slovenia. We have concentrated on the dimensions of religiosity, established by Stark and Glock in 1965. They distinguish between five religiosity dimensions, which are: ideological, intellectual, ritualistic, experiential and consequential. Firstly, we have introduced trends of religiosity in modern society, followed by secularization theory views and dimensions of religiosity that have been established by various sociologists. We also showed how religiosity is present in various groups within the society. Our key objective was to determine the extent to which education influences individuals’ religiosity in Slovenia. We also wanted to determine how the representation and presence of the different dimensions of religiosity have changed in Slovenia from 1990 onwards. For our analysis, we have used results from the surveys of Slovenian Public Opinion (SJM), which include questions on an individual’s religion, religiosity and religious practices. The analysis of the data provided has shown that education does have an impact on religiosity, as there is a clear distinction in religiosity between the literates and the not so literate individuals within the Slovenian population. Irregardless, education does have a different impact on every dimension of religiosity. Nowadays, the correlation between education and religiosity has become weak and education no longer has the same effect on religiosity as it did back in the early 1990’s.
