Abstract:	Proučen je bil odnos potrošnikov (N = 730) do gensko spremenjene hrane (GSH), predstavljen pojem biotehnologije in genskega inženiringa, gensko spremenjenih organizmov (GSO), rastlin (GSR) in živali ter analiziran odnos potrošnikov do njih. Opravljena je bila anketa med 730 potrošniki iz celotne Slovenije, glede odnosa do GSO. Rezultati ankete so pokazali, da so potrošniki v glavnem seznanjeni s pojmom GSO in GSH, vendar menijo, da javnost o tem ni dovolj informirana. Večina anketiranih (75 %) je mnenja, da uživanje GSO ni varno in da bi morala biti označena tudi živila pridelana od živali, ki so bile krmljene z GS krmo (80 %), prav tako nasprotujejo tudi gojenju GSR v Sloveniji (82 %). Izkazalo se je tudi, da anketiranci poznajo le polovico označb, ki se pojavljajo na izdelkih ter da niso seznanjeni z dejstvom, da »ekološko« hkrati pomeni, da je živilo pridelano in proizvedeno brez genske tehnike (63 %).

Title:	CONSUMERS AND GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOOD
Abstract:	The consumers (N=730) attitude about genetically modified food (GMF), the concept of biotechnology and genetic engineering, gene modified organisms (GMO), crops (GM crops), animals and determinating the attitude of consumers to them were studied. One opinion poll was carried out among 730 consumers, from whole Slovenia, in terms of attitude towards GMF or GMOs. The survery results showed that the Slovenian consumers are generally familiar with the concept of GMOs and GMF, but they are not sufficiently informed. The major opinion of the respondents (75 %) is that the consumption of GMOs is not safe and that the food should have labelings on their composition and method of production (80 %), also consumers oppose the cultivation of GM crops in Slovenia (82 %). It has also been shown that 63 % of the consumers know only half of the labeling on the products and that they are not aware of the fact that »ecological« does mean that the food it is also without GMOs.
