Abstract:V diplomskem delu smo preučevali poslovno strategijo načrtovanja zastarelosti.

Title:PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE OF PRODUCTS
Abstract:In this diploma thesis we studied the strategy of planning obsolescence. Using the strategy, the manufacturers plan the lifespan of their products to make the consumer discard it after certain time and purchase a new one. This way the manufacturers increase the sales of their products and thus increase their profit. However, a strategy like this has several negative consequences on consumers, economy and environment, which motivated us for research of the subject. We discovered that evolution of technology and society also enabled the evolution of the strategy, so it can be used on any product. The main two forms of the startegy of planned obsolescence are functional obsolescence, in which the product stops funcioning after a certain period, and psychological obsolescence, which convinces the consumer not to keep an obsolete product, although it still functions well. The consequences of the strategy like this is the increase in the production and the waste, which pollute the enviroment, especially in the developing countries, which are more vulnerable to abuse. As the impacts increase and become more noticeable, people and government institutions take action to prevent using such business strategy and decrease the negative impacts, but the extent and complexity of the consequences prevent achieving satisfactory results. Analyzing the subject, we tried to find solutions for the problem, basis of which are the awareness of the consumers about the problem, and the social values, especially the care for the environment.
