Title:THERMOGRAVIMETRIC ANALYSIS OF GYPSUM FROM POWER PLANT ŠOŠTANJ
Abstract:The thesis is focused on the establishment of a method for the thermogravimetric analysis of gypsum and evaluation of the measurement results. Thermogravimetric analysis is an automatic method for determination of a degree of purity, ie. the proportion of calcium sulphate dihydrate and also calcium carbonate content. By using this method we can reduce the impact of accommodation and environmental conditions as well as the human factors, while we get the results in much shorter time, comparing to a conventional gravimetric method. In addition of approach to establish the instrumental method for use in a laboratory, the study also shows the verification of the method and evaluation of measurement uncertainty. Based on the analyses of the real samples and reagents of known purity, the range of testing and comparison with the results achieved with the other methods were determined. We have found out that the results of measurements with thermogravimetric method are comparable with the results determined by gravimetric method. It also turned out that the use of the instrumental method indicates shorter duration of determining the degree of purity of the gypsum and the calcium carbonate content, because the instrumental analyses of the samples occur simultaneously in a single instrument procedure, while the gravimetric method must be carried out in several individual steps.
