Title:WORK METHODS WITH PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM DEMENTIA
Abstract:Theoretical frameworks: For patients diagnosed with dementia is typical to suffer from memory loss, loss of perception, judgement and planning. Dementia is a life changing disease to a person suffering from it and to his family, especially if the patient stays in family circle even after the disease is progressed. The patient suffers from different stages of dementia and usually the family decides to move the patient to suitable care centre - retirement home. Research methodology: Degree paper is composed out of theoretical and empirical part. In theoretical part is used a method of description and inside of that is used a method of compilation, which means that we summarized known findings of experts in that field. In empirical part of degree paper are our own findings, which we got from survey that was carried out in Nursing home Rakičan. Results: On the base of 45 questioned employees in Nursing home Rakičan, we concluded, that the most used method of work is validation. 44 questioned employees encounter with people diagnosed with dementia on daily basis. We concluded that the most important quality in employee is patience – this quality is to 44 questioned employees, that makes 97,8 %. We noticed, that the work with people diagnosed with dementia is getting harder, therefore we frequently promote education among employees. Conclusion: There is a wide variety of methods that can be used in work involving patients diagnosed with dementia, and all of these methods include a comprehensive treatment of the patients. However, we think that the nursing staff should educate itself about new methods of work with patients diagnosed with dementia. It would do good for nursing staff to know more about the method of maieutics, which would make the work with patients easier.
