Title:Folding screen - decoration or useful element
Abstract:Room screen dividers have been repeatedly used in the past due to their functionality on the one hand and elegant visual effect on the other. This thesis investigates a room screen divider and its spatial significance both during the history and in the modern times. The theoretical part of this paper explores the development of room screen dividers and their use during centuries. The research is followed by a practical part where a functioning prototype, a screen divider between a bedroom and a kitchen, was designed and built for a smaller room. The design and building phases are described in this thesis. This project is a proof of concept of incorporating an ancient object into a new-aged room design.
Keywords:folding screen, room divider, history, construction plan, manufacturing process
