Abstract:Družinsko življenje v modernih zahodnih družbah že nekaj desetletij doživlja korenite spremembe. Magistrsko delo z naslovom Novi vidiki očetovstva v starševski vlogi v postmoderni družbi obravnava vpliv očetovstva na življenje moških, predvsem vključevanje očetov v družinsko delo in njihovo aktivno vlogo.

Title:New Aspects of Paternal Parenting Role in Postmodern Society
Abstract:For several decades, family life in modern Western societies has undergone radical alterations. The role of a father has been changing over time along with alterations in all social areas. More and more fathers are nowadays involved in their children’s upbringing. The master’s thesis New Aspects of Paternal Parenting Role in Postmodern Society deals with the impact of fatherhood on the lives of men, with emphasis on the participation of fathers in family work, and their active role. The theoretical part of the thesis presents certain bases of social life in post-modernity which affected alterations in relationships within a modern family. This is followed by the aspects of modern parenting formed throughout changes in the process of upbringing. More attention is given to changes in paternal identity and new fatherhood. The empirical part is focused on men and fathers. We were interested in their opinion regarding the decision-making for parenting – taking into account male’s participation in parenting and family life – and family policy in the field of parental protection. Male engagement as early as during pregnancy and the presence of men during childbirth by all means positively affect their onward involvement after childbirth, especially their paternal role in relation to partnership and family relationships.
