Keltski staroselci so ohranjali kulte svojih prednikov.

Title:THE SPIRITUAL LANDSCAPE OF ANCIENT POETOVIO
Abstract:Petoviona was at its height the most important city in the area of today's Slovenia. The initial military camp became a colony and Petoviona obtained civil administration. This was followed by an explosive growth and the city was given its self-government. Also, customs service, office for inheritance tax and the archive of Upper Pannonia were operating. Commerce and craft trades were well developed in the city. Consequently, the development of the city was followed by the development of the population, who came from different parts of the huge Roman Empire. A wide range of Poetovians caused the differences between them, both in cultural terms as well as in the diversity of religious cults. Different religions began to mix in the city. Originally, Romans believed in different Roman gods (polytheism). Celtic aborigines maintained cults of their ancestors. As a result, various cults, rooted in Celtic culture, were found in Petoviona. In addition to the Celtic cults, different cults from the East brought by Poetovians were recognised. One of the eastern cults, Mithraism, was particularly well formed. Despite the initial polytheistic religion in the Roman Empire, the established cults increasingly began indicating the elements of monotheism. Two notable monotheistic religions, established in Petoviona, were Judaism and Christianity. The latter had long been illegal. Victorinus of Pettau’s commentaries evidence the presence of Judaism in the city. Victorinus of Pettau was the first known bishop in the city and a Christian writer, who in his writings particularly focused on commenting on the Bible.
