Title:ANALYSIS OF HORISONTAL AND VERTICAL BOUNDARIES OF THE CHOOSEN BUSINESS COMPANY
Abstract:When a business company increases the number of products made yearly, it expands its horizontal boundaries, which can happen in two ways. Generic or natural growth is when a company increases the quantity of the same products being made in a year. Growth by diversification on the other side is when a business company increases the range of its products, and starts producing multiple different products instead of just one. By increasing the number of finished products, the company aims to better use their work force and production machines, thus lowering their average production cost per unit, which leaves the business company with higher profit. While primary activities are required to produce and distribute the goods, the company’s secondary activities are the ones supporting primary activities on every part of the production process. We analyzed all those activities in a chosen business company that we selected, and ordered them in a vertical chain.
Keywords:Vertical integration, Horisontal boundaries, make or buy decision, economies of scale and scope, learning curve, production chain
