Abstract:Magistrsko delo z naslovom Konjeniška terminologija v strokovnem tisku obravnava strokovno izrazje s področja konjeništva v izbranem strokovnem viru, tj. v knjigi Naši konji (Vejnovič 2008). Zbrano gradivo zajema enopomenske in večpomenske izraze.

Title:Equestrian terminology in a technical piece of writing
Abstract:This master’s degree with the title Equestrian terminology in a technical piece of writing deals with technical terminology from the field of equestrianism in a chosen technical piece of writing, the book Our horses (Vejnovič 2008). The theoretical part consists of the presentation of the horse and its characteristics, followed by two chapters on horse breeding in Slovenia and equestrianism. Further on, it deals with the terminology as a science. I presented its users, beginnings and terminology characteristics, terminology in general and terminological dictionaries and their structure as well as the norm and then focused on the equestrian terminology in dictionaries. The second part of this thesis focuses on technical expressions from the chosen technical book, which are presented in a table and analysed on three levels, concerning parts of speech, expressiveness and meaning. I also checked the presence of these terms in Pleteršnik’s Slovenian-German Dictionary (1894/95) and The Dictionary of Slovenian Literary Language. The results show that among the 327 equestrian terms it is the nouns that prevail, being followed by the adjectives and the verbs, whereas other parts of speech have not been found. The analysis shows that the expressions mostly consist of one word (e.g. bandage, gestation, flock, hair, rider, coach/carriage, etc.), however, there are also some more-word expressions (e. g. flexible horsewhip, horse breeding centre, gallop racing, riding breeches, etc.). The collected material consists of expressions with one meaning as well as two meanings. With the help of The Dictionary of Slovenian Literary Language and Pleteršnik’s Slovenian-German dictionary it has been established that the equestrian terminology is well represented in general dictionaries, however, there are some expressions that do not appear there (e.g. knuckle, hippology, etc.). The origin of the words shows that the equestrian terminology to a great extent originates from the Pre-Slavonic period or Old Church Slavonic period (e.g. whip, gestation, flock, mare, rider, crib, horse, blacksmith).
