Najvidnejši povabljeni risarji in bakrorezci so: Almanach, Justus van der Nypoort, Johann Wiriex, Pavao Ritter Vitezović, Peter Mungerstorff, Andrej Trost, Mihael Stangl, Matija Greischer, Jernej Ramschissl in Janez Koch. Rastline, upodobljene v osemnajstem zvezku Iconothece Valvasoriane so bile naslikane takoj za tem, ko so bile odtrgane, in večino jih še danes najdemo v okolici gradu Bogenšperk.

Title:Plants in the 18th volume of Iconotheca valvasoriana
Abstract:Johann Weikhard Valvasor was born in 1641 in Ljubljana, and died in 1693 in Krško. His works are permeated with zeal for science and love for his home land, Carniola, which led to him founding a graphics workshop in 1678. He founded the workshop after settling in the Bogenšperk Castle, which he bought from Baron Franc Albert Kheysell in 1672. Valvasor hosted various draftsmen and copper-plate engravers who created works with different themes under his patronage. The most notable draftsmen and copper-plate engravers were Almanach, Justus van der Nypoort, Johann Wiriex, Pavao Ritter Vitezović, Peer Mungerstorff, Andreas Trost, Mihael Stangl, Matija Greischer, Jernej Ramschissl and Ivan Koch. They created graphics which Valvasor included in his literary works. Valvasor was also a collector of graphic sheets and drawings. In 1685, he bound 18 volumes, of which 17 have been preserved until this day. The valuable collection is kept in Croatian State Archives in Zagreb in the library Biblioteka Metropolitana. In Slovenia it is accessible as a facsimile under the title Iconotheca Valvasoriana. Valvasor collected most of the material for this work during his travels, while the eighteenth volume is dedicated to the flora and fauna of Carniola. This last volume includes watercolours, painted by an as-yet unknown artist; however, we can very likely attribute them to Valvasor or one of his colleagues. The plants portrayed in the eighteenth volume of Iconotheca Valvasoriana were painted immediately after being picked, and most of these plants can still be found in the area surrounding Bogenšperk Castle today. The watercolours are skilfully painted; everything is connected by a blue-greyish shadow, and the plants and animals can easily be identified. When painting these works the author may have studied the works of Jacob Hoefnagel, as his graphics of plants and animals, which he kept in his collection, served well as a frame of reference for many painters.
