Title:Fattening performance of pigs on family farms
Abstract:The aim of the study was to monitor the feeding of pigs in two farm in different feeding. Fattening of pigs was monitored in a period from 20 to 130 kg on two farms. Five pigs were monitored on farm L and 6 pigs were monitored on farm K. The pigs were individualy weighed during the fattening and daily gains were calculated. Feed samples were taken for chemical analysis and feed allowance was monitored. Feed on farm L contained 104 g crude protein (CP) and 16.3 MJ metabolizable energy (ME) per kg dry matter (DM). On farm K, the feed contained 200 g CP/kg DM and 15.03 MJ ME/kg DM. Energy content of the diets was according to the requirements adequate on both farms. As considers CP, its concentration on farm L was too low. On the other hand, feed on farm K had appropriate CP concentration in the first phase of fattening, while the concentration of CP in the following phases even exceeded the requirements. Pigs on farm L gained almost 600 g per day, consumed 2.19 kg feed per day, feed conversion ratio was 3.67 kg/kg gain. On farm K, daily gain of pigs was 730 g/day, feed consumption was 1.87 kg feed/day and feed conversion ratio 2.66 kg/kg gain. As housing conditions were comparable on the farms, we can assume that better performance (higher daily gains, better feed conversion) of pigs on farm K is a consequence of higher CP content in feed.
