Abstract:Namen zaključnega dela z naslovom Zmožnost rabe in razumevanja prostorskih pojmov v 2. starostnem obdobju je predstaviti govorni razvoj predšolskih otrok in v povezavi s tem ugotoviti rabo in razumevanje prostorskih pojmov pri otrocih v 2. starostnem obdobju v izbranem vrtcu v severovzhodni Sloveniji.

Title:The ability to use and understand spatial concepts in the second age group
Abstract:The aim of this diploma thesis is to present speech development of preschool children and discover the use and understanding of spatial concepts of children in the second age group in the chosen kindergarten in the northeastern Slovenia. In the theoretical part, we have presented the difference between speech and language, we have researched various speech development theories, the process of speech development in preschool period, the factors affecting this development and the connection between speech and thinking, and speech and listening. We have researched the development of spatial concepts and also included The Kindergarten Curriculum. In the empirical part, we have presented the examination of the ability to use and understand spatial concepts that was carried out in the kindergarten. There were 21 children from the second age group included in the examination; twelve girls and nine boys. The descriptive research method was used. Results show that children understand spatial concepts before they use them and that age is not always connected to successfulness since younger children had better results than the older ones. Girls were more successful than boys. We were surprised over the fact that in the second age group all children still had not acquired the use and understanding of two basic spatial concepts “in” and “on”.
