Title:Comparison of producability between ross 308 broilers and the slovenian late feathering hen in organic farming conditions
Abstract:To choose a suitable breed of chickens is one of the most important questions in organic poultry farming. The whole process should last for at least 81 days or less compared to slowly growing breeds. The main goal of the experiment was to compare the production of Ross 308 chickens and Slovene late-feathered hens (SPOK) under ecological farming conditions. We studied the growth of chickens for both provenances, we checked feet injuries, legs, breasts and tarsial joints. The research was conducted between 50 Ross 308 chickens and 52 SPOK chickens. The chickens were weighted once a week, and we also recorded their food consumption. Leg, tarsial joint and breast injuries have been evaluated on the 60th day for the Ross 308 chickens and on the 70th day for the Slovene late-feathered chickens (SPOK). The analysis of the data showed that the first 21 days of comparison the Slovene late-featherd hens had a statistically significant higher growth than the Ross 308 chickens, but after 42 days and towards the end of breeding the Ross 308 chickens grew more. The Ross 308 chickens achieved a significantly larger slaughter weight (3884.47 g) than the SPOK chickens within 81 days of growth. The SPOK chickens consumed more food and, despite their longer life, achieved a statistically significant lower weight of corpse, as well as a significantly smaller slaughter rate compared to Ross 308 chickens (71.43% and 76.94%). The analysis of injury estimates shows that there are no significant differences in the incidence of foot injuries during provenances, but there were significantly more injuries of class 1 tarsial joints in SPOK chickens. Beast injury was not observed in any of the species compared
