Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Anemija zaradi pomanjkanja železa ogroža več kot 30 % svetovnega prebivalstva.

Title:The particularities of administering iron preparations in the vein
Abstract:Theoretical starting points: The anemia - due to lack of iron in blood - jeopardizes more than 30 % of the world's population. The purpose of this thesis is to present the positive and negative experiences of the patients who were being injected iron preparations into their veins, and on the basis of their findings to propose and to look for the options for the improving care and assistance to those patients. Research methodology: In the thesis we have used the descriptive and quantitative methodology. The data were obtained by the means of the questionnaire which contained 26 questions of an open and closed type. The research was carried out in a clinical setting on 36 patients who were being treated in a hematological clinic due to lack of iron. Results: The patients who were included in the survey responded well to the iron infusion, 77 % of the respondents did not suffer any side effects while receiving the infusion. The majority of the respondents have had some problems in everyday activities due to lack of iron in their blood. Fatigue was reported as the most often problem before diagnosing the disease. Most of the respondents consume the food enriched with iron three times a week. Conclusion: Iron must be replaced properly, however it is necessary to strive to find the cause of the lack. In recent years the parenteral iron preparations, being injected in the vein, have become quite safe and, according to the positive effect on the patients feeling as well as good efficiency of the medicine, could seem to be very reasonable to introduce it for wider use.
Keywords:sideropenic anemia, infusion of iron preparations, parenteral therapy, nurse, diet.
