Abstract:	Vesoljska tekma je pojem, ki ga enačimo z obdobjem raziskovanja vesolja od poleta prvega Sputnika do propada Sovjetske zveze. Vrhunec oziroma osrednji dogodek tekme je polet Apolla 11, ki je predstavljal prvi pohod človeka na planetu, ki ni bil Zemlja. Kljub temu se tekmovanje ne začne tu, temveč ob koncu druge svetovne vojne, za svetovno javnost pa postane zanimiv šele okrog leta 1955, torej desetletje kasneje. To obdobje je delno krivo za širšo medijsko povezanost sveta, saj so sateliti omogočili tudi medcelinske televizijske prenose. Ti dejavniki so omogočili, da so tekmo od poleta do poleta lahko spremljali tudi Slovenci, tako v zamejstvu kot Jugoslaviji. V nalogi primerjamo odzive dveh lokalnih tednikov na vesoljsko tekmo Sovjetske zveze in ZDA. Natančneje pri tem obravnavamo tržaški Katoliški glas in Celjski tednik.

Title:	The space race in the eyes of Slovene newspapers
Abstract:	The Space Race is a term which denotes the era of space exploration ranging from the flight of the first Sputnik to the fall of the Soviet Union. The central event of the race is the flight of Apollo 11 that represented the first extra-terrestrial human walk. The race had informally begun much sooner, during the final years of the World War II, though it appears in the public eye around 1955, namely a decade later. This era is partially to blame for our media-connected world, as the satellites launched during this time enabled intercontinental television broadcasts. These factors enabled the Slovenes, both abroad and in Yugoslavia, to observe the race one flight at a time. This paper compares the reaction of two local weekly newspapers to the Space Race of the Soviet Union and the USA. Specifically, we cover the newspapers Katoliški glas of Trieste and Celjski tednik.
