Abstract:V magistrskem delu analiziram izbrana romana svetovne književnosti Tek za zmajem in Tisoč veličastnih sonc. Diskriminirane so bile predvsem osebe ženskega spola, zato podrobno opišem vlogo ženske v času postkolonializma.

Title:Analysis of motifs and themes in Khaled Hosseini's selected novels
Abstract:The thesis incudes an analysis of novels The kite runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. The theoretical part focuses on defining the concept of postcolonialism and explaining why both novels are part of postcolonial literature. The most common subject of postcolonialism is the clash of cultures, triggered by colonial leaders wanting to obtain authority over other people or territories in order to introduce their principles into their culture. Consequently, postcolonialization is a process of change: destruction, recovery and loss of power. The findings of this thesis have been linked to Afghanistan, which experienced a form of supremacy with the arrival of the Russian colonial powers. Based on studies and articles on postcolonialism in Afghanistan, it can be concluded that Afghanistan is a postcolonial society. Postcolonialism deals with and highlights the conflicts of cultural identity of postcolonial subjects, who lack the power to regain control and are thus considered oppressed and discriminated. The social status of men in the Afghan society and literature differs greatly from the social status of women. The underlying principles of gender are consistent, which is why the thesis focuses on the role of women during postcolonialism. The main characters in both novels are heavily impacted by the society and other external factors, which they have no control over. These include revolution, war, extremism, oppression, distress and discrimination. The historical circumstances of the Afghan war have also had a strong impact on the relationships between the characters in the novels. The empirical part of the thesis analyses both novels based on main topics and motives. Both novels are multi-generational, which highlights the complex and contradictive relationship between the parent and the child as well as the themes of love, war, friendship and discrimination, emphasizing a gap between different ethnic groups.
