Abstract:Med pisanjem diplomskega dela sem velikokrat vprašala naključne ljudi, kaj na splošno menijo o posameznikih, ki so krivi kršenja temeljnih družbenih norm.

Title:Rehabilitation program for prisoners
Abstract:During the writing process of this thesis, I found myself inquiring with random people what is their opinion on individuals, who have been found breaking the fundamental social norms. The most frequent answer was they belong in jail. According to most, these people should not be walking freely, since they instil fear in others. Not a single person thought of a fact that most of these serve their sentence and once again become a part of the society. It is only then that resocialization and the importance of the rehabilitation program crossed their minds. It is the fact that most of the people only bear in mind that justice needs to be served, no matter what the consequences, that convinced me to start researching this field. This thesis explains all the basic terms that one needs to understand the subject. First you can read about different personalities and why an individual develops any criminal characteristics. What follows is the history of the prison sentence, when it was first introduced and how it was enforced through time. To get a better grasp of it, the function of the prison and the sanction of the prison sentence are explained. Also the term deviant behaviour that leads to prison sentence is explained, as well as possible reasons that may lead to that kind of behaviour. With the intention of grasping the true image interviews with a psychologist from one of the institutes and a former prisoner are conducted. Also a survey with fifty-two random prisoners was carried out. The psychologist guides us through the way the program is performed and the responses to the rehabilitation. The people, who are still in the program warn us about the shortcomings and stress the importance of the program. The passage from freedom to prison and vice versa is a tough situation for each individual, so there are some suggestions and possible improvements in these two critical periods found in this thesis.
