Abstract:Obrestovanje nas obdaja na vsakem koraku. Poznamo navadno in obrestno obrestovanje.

Title:A Comparison of Slovenian Financial and International Actuarial Approach in Calculation of Simple and Compound Interest.Calculation of Simple and Compound Interest.
Abstract:Interest calculation always accompanies our everyday life. Every day merchants publish new possibilities of selling furniture and electrical appliances with payment possibilities by instalments, buying a flat on trust, vehicle leasing etc. Those, who do not like to place themselves in debit, are searching for various possibilities how to make the best out of their savings, either through insurance companies, banks or investments into precious metals, real estates, art works etc. In each example we pay either the "price" for the borrowed money or receive an "award" for owing certain things or money through a certain time period. The basis for calculation is interest calculation, which, on the basis of interest rate, shows the value that we pay or receive as a supplement on top of the borrowed or saved money. During their education everyone got familiar with the type of interest calculation used in Slovenia. We know simple interest and compound interest. Both may be divided into the decursive method, where interests are charged at the end of the certain period and then added to the principal, and the anticipative method, where interests are charged in advance and they are already at the beginning of the period deducted from the principal. Interest periods can vary in lengths, hence why we need to adjust the capitalization period. When a capitalization period of less than a year is used, a difference between the effective and nominal interest rate can occur. An interest rate divided into a proportional part of the annual interest rate is called a relative interest rate. In such cases differences between the effective and nominal interest rate occur. This issue is solved by using the effective interest rate. We cannot chose the interest rate method used in banks as usually they use the compound method with the effective interest rate. However, we do have the choice between annuity and instalments. Repayments of principal are changing with the annuity while staying the same with instalments. Next to the Slovenian financial approach for valuation of assets we also use the international actuarial approach, which at first sight differs completely from the Slovenian. We will introduce both approaches and try to prove, that despite their (seemingly) different terminology and symbols, they derive from the same mathematical basis and show the same results in the corresponding practical examples.
