Abstract:	Danes živimo v svetu, ki je poln migracij celotnih družin, ki imajo tudi predšolske otroke, zaradi različnih razlogov. To je pripeljajo do dejstva, da ima danes veliko vrtcev vsaj enega otroka priseljenca, in do potrebe za prilagoditev dela tej realnosti. Diplomsko delo je sestavljeno iz teoretičnega in empiričnega dela. V teoretičnem delu je opredeljen koncept interkulturnosti in opredeljene njegove značilnosti in zmožnosti apliciranja pri integraciji otrok priseljencev v vrtce. Opredeljene so tudi morebitne težave, ki se pojavljajo pri apliciranju koncepta interkulturnosti in opisan dober primer prakse v Sloveniji. Empirični del diplomskega dela je posvečen raziskavi, ki smo jo izvedli med 201 pedagoškimi delavci v vrtcih Republike Slovenije in Republike Hrvaške. Z raziskavo smo želeli ugotoviti, kakšne so izkušnje pedagoških delavcev z otroki priseljenci ter kako in koliko aplicirajo koncept interkulturnosti. Podatke, ki smo jih zbrali, smo obdelali s pomočjo programa SPSS, pri čemer so nas zanimale razlike glede na starost, stopnjo izobrazbe in državo zaposlitve anketirancev. Ugotovili smo, da pedagoški delavci aplicirajo koncept interkulturnosti v svojem delu, ampak mogoče premalo v sodelovanju z organizacijami in lokalno skupnostjo zunaj vrtca. Uporaba maternega jezika se dovoljuje na vseh področjih delovanja vrtca. Anketiranci so ocenili uporabo pozitivne diskriminacije pri integraciji otrok priseljencev kot niti nekoristno niti koristno, izražanje stereotipov in predsodkov med otroki pa kot občasno.

Title:	The concept of interculturalism for immigrant chldren in their early childhood and pre-school education
Abstract:	Nowadays, we live in a world in which the process of migration is happening because of numerous factors, and it also changed from migrating as an individual to migrating as a whole family, including families having preschool children as well. That brings to the fact, that many kindergartens nowadays have at least one immigrant child in their day-care and due to that fact, they must change their working ethic and assimilate it to the current reality. This bachelor’s thesis consists of the theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part defines the concept of interculturalism, its characteristics and its possible application when it comes to integrating immigrant children into kindergartens. Problems that are likely to occur while applying the concept of interculturalism are described as well, accompanied by a fine example of a good working practise in Slovenia. The empirical part of the bachelor’s thesis is devoted to the research carried out on 201 pedagogical workers in the kindergartens of Slovenia and Croatia. The purpose of this research was to find out what is the experience of the pedagogical workers working with immigrant children and to what extent they apply the concept of interculturalism. The collected data was processed using the SPSS software (i.e. Statistical Package for the Social Science), and the focus was on different variables such as age, level of education and the country of employment of the respondents. The results of this research indicate that pedagogical workers do apply the concept of interculturalism, but not enough in the sphere of cooperating with the organizations and the local community outside the kindergarten. Moreover, the use of the mother tongue is permitted in all areas of the kindergarten’s activity. Furthermore, the respondents assessed the use of positive discrimination in the integration of immigrant children as neither useless nor beneficial, while the expression of stereotypes and prejudices among children as occasional.
