Title:Generation y as workforce
Abstract:Generation Y is currently the largest generation in the workforce and its number continues to grow. From previous generations it differs in work values, expectations and goals which consequently affects the recruitment and retention process. Therefore, the master thesis focuses on the characteristics of generations that are currently in the workforce, with an emphasis on the generation Y and investigates the job satisfaction factors. We were interested in how the generation Y is different from other generations as workforce, which factors are contributors to their job satisfaction, and how are they actually satisfied at the workplace. In the theoretical part we defined the generations and presented the characteristics of the Silent generation, generation Baby boom, generation X, generation Y and generation Z. We focused on the generation Y and investigated what is important to them in terms of job satisfaction factors that are related to Work and working conditions, Leadership and superiors, Remuneration, Career development and Technology. In the next chapter each of the five job satisfaction categories was presented in more detail. To determine the generation Y as workforce we carried out a survey using a questionnaire. The results showed what is important to them within the five categories of job satisfaction factors and how are they satisfied at the current workplace. We realised that there is a greater likelihood that members of the generation Y will leave their current employer within a year, rather than members of the generation X.
