Title:Blood collection in pediatrics
Abstract:Blood sample collection from children is one of hardest intervention that nurse can do in pediatric field. Children are even more susceptible to invasive procedures like blood collection which remains in their memory as bad, painful and negative experience. Nurse has important role at performing intervention of blood collection from children, because one negative experience can have negative effect to all other interventions no matter how they are done. In the diploma thesis we wanted to determine the subjective view of the nurse on the sampling of the blood sample, its difficulty, and the involvement of parents in taking a sample of blood. We used descriptive method of work and quantitative methodology. Research sample covered 30 nurses from pediatric field. The results obtained were presented with descriptive statistics. With research we found out that years of work experience, multiple time of blood collection per week and age of children are conditioned for assessing of how hard is to perform blood sample collection on children from different age stages. We also found out that children who are older than six years are having their blood drawn from their arms most of time, more specific from their cubital area on arms. Nurse need for performing blood sample collection a lot of experience and knowledge, which she gains all time when she is working. That’s why it’s important that nurses share their experience among their younger nurses to gain same knowledge.
