Moška telovadna društva so v Sokolu nastajala od leta 1863 dalje, medtem ko so ženske na liberalni strani svoje prvo telovadno društvo dobile leta 1901.

Title:The Function of Women Sections of the Gymnastic Organisation Orel between both World Wars
Abstract:Women’s gymnastics on the Slovene territory began to develop rather late, in comparison to the men’s gymnastics. Men’s gymnastics societies in Sokol started to appear after 1863, while liberal women got their first gymnastics society (Prvo telovadno društvo) in 1901. With the conservatives, the women’s gymnastics began to develop later. Before World War I, the gymnastics organisation Orel did not support it; however, in some areas women’s gymnastics clubs began to appear. This happened mainly in bigger towns where there was a possibility of the girls and women falling under the influence of Sokol and, consequently, the liberals. Nonetheless, these women’s gymnastics clubs were not a part of Orel, but rather worked within the educational societies of the Slovene Christian Social Organisation (Slovenska krščanska socialna zveza). In the following thesis, I will present the workings of Orliška zveza between 1919 and 1922, its successor Orliška podzveza until 1927, and the independent Slovenska orliška zveza between 1927 and 1929. The thesis is divided thematically. The first three chapters focus on the general function of the three aforementioned organisations, the class they were arranging, and their general meetings. The next part of the thesis illustrates the work of the three organisations in the educational area. Therefore, household courses are more closely presented. At the same time, the women’s gymnastics clothing is described in detail. The last part of the thesis focuses on the presentation of Orel’s individual women’s gymnastics clubs in Prekmurje and Štajerska.
