Title:Effects of noise on a preschooler
Abstract:The thesis entitled Effects of Noise on Preschool Children consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part contains a definition and description of sound and noise, and their effects on people, the kindergarten teachers, the preschool children as well as a selection of ways to reduce the noise in kindergartens. A lot of emphasis is put on the impact of noise. We know that modern life creates more and more noise. As a consequence, noise can affect health of children and employees, problems can also occur in communication, and the quality of work in kindergartens can be diminished. With the empirical part we wanted to find out what employees in kindergarten think about noise and the impact of noise on children. The empirical part covers a survey about noise. The survey questionnaire was designed online and provided to educators and assistants in kindergartens in Prekmurje. There were 95 completed questionnaires. In the study, we found that kindergarten teachers and assistant teachers in kindergartens perceive noise as a disturbing factor. They notice that noise affects the work itself, as well as the children, their concentration and obedience. Most kindergarten teachers and their assistants use noise reduction tools in their work. None of them have much training on the topic of noise, which might be necessary in order to further contribute to reducing the noise in the group for easier and better work.
