Abstract:V zelenjadarstvu so pleveli eden od glavnih vzrokov znižanja pridelka.

Title:Effects of soil management methods on weed population and yield of cauliflower
Abstract:Weeds are one of the main causes for loss of yield in vegetable production. New effective techniques of non-chemical weed control are needed to reduce pesticide residue in food and to help organic farmers. In cooperation with the CoreOrganics international project SoilVeg, we carried out a field trial in 2016. The trial took place at the University of Agriculture centre Pohorski dvor. We compared the effects of two cover crops (crimson clover, barley), terminated with two techniques (ploughing, rolling with 'roller crimper') on the population, size and biomass of weeds and yield of cauliflower. For the control plots, we used plots with no cover crop and no mulch (that we hoed), and plots with black synthetic fabric mulch. The number of weeds was measured three times during plant growth and twice before harvest, and the biomass and coverage were measured before harvest. During the plant growth, we hoed ploughed and controled the plots after every measurement. The percentage of weeds on the plots with cover crops was 31–39% lower than on the control plots. The percentage of weeds on the rolled plots was 55–62% lower than on other plots. Coverage and biomass of weeds was highest on rolled plots (+ 65.7 %). There was less weeds on rolled plots, but they were significantly larger than the weeds on the other plots. Manure had no correlation with weed biomass and coverage. The final yield of cauliflower was not significantly different in ploughed and control plots. The yield on the rolled plots was up to 60% lower. Species of cover crop did not have an effect on the yield.
