Abstract:En svet, več držav, mnogo podjetij in nešteto družin. Opravili smo intervju z lastnikom podjetja, predstavili rezultate slednjega in omenjeno primerjali z ugotovitvami dosedanjih raziskav. Zato pravočasno načrtovanje nasledstva v družinskih podjetjih predstavlja ključ do uspešnega prenosa družinskega podjetja.

Title:Problems of Succession Planning in Family Businesses with the Case Study
Abstract:One world, several countries, many businesses and countless families. What is the connection between the above? There is one type of company that is very special. These are family businesses, companies that intertwine the two systems, family on one hand and business on the other hand. These companies are at the same time an important type of business in Slovenia and in the world economy itself. They represent the world's most durable enterprise model and are an important driver of economic growth, innovation, employment and social integration. The continuing success of these companies is based on ensuring that the next generation, which will receive the so-called “relay stick”, will be motivated to respond to challenges and be ready to work for further growth, either financially, strategically, structurally and organizationally (Železnik, 2018). In the master’s thesis we discussed about family entrepreneurship, especially we are interested in the succession of family businesses, which is considered one of the problem areas of the mentioned type of companies. First, we focused ourselves to the definition of the family business, and further to the problem of succession in them. The transfer of the company to the next generation is a huge problem, since the transfer is survived by very few family businesses. In order to change that, to make it easier for family businesses when faced with the succession process, there are supportive institutions for family business, which in various ways help them with – advise, organize various events, issue manuals, books, and so on. We have found that the topic of family businesses in Slovenia is quite young, but it is becoming more and more important, because from year to year there are more and more research and articles on this subject. As we wanted to get the most genuine insight into how family businesses works and which are the challenges they are facing, we have presented family business Kodila, d. o. o., which already has the third family generation involved in the processing of meat and meat products. We conducted an interview with the owner of the company, presented the results of the latter and compared it with the findings of previous research. We also made a critical evaluation of the results and proposals for successful implementation of the intergenerational transition. In conclusion, we emphasized the conclusions and key findings, answered research questions and suggested what would be really good to explore in the future. Among other things, we have found that the transfer of succession is a process that requires his time. Timely succession planning in family business is like one key to the successful transfer of a family business.
