Title:The efficacy of conservative treatment of stress urinary incontinence in women
Abstract:Theoretical background: Stress urinary incontinence is the unintentional loss of urine while sneezing, soughing, moving or due to physical exertion. It appears as a conseequence of aging, excessive body weight, multiple vaginal labours and weakened pelvic floor muscles. Conservative methods of treatment are always the first choice; if they fail, surgery is the next step. Methodology: A systematic review of the scientific and professional literature was used, limited to publications in English and published in the 2008–2018 period. Articles were selected based on the following criteria: accessibility, suitability of the content. Literature was acquired using the PubMed, Medline and ScienceDirect databases. The course of the review and analysis was presented using the PRISMA diagram. For analysis the content analysis method was used. Results: The analysis of twelve scientific articles produced the basic information on the conservative methods of treatment. Results have shown that a combination of several different methods of treatment is necessary to achieve better and more positive results, that conservative methods are often not effective enough and surgical treatment techniques are necessary. Discussion and conclusion: In most cases, successful treatment results require the use of two or more conservative methods of treatment. In case none of the conservative treatments cause improvement, surgery needs to be considered. The success of treatment also depends on each individual. Due to the increasing number of new technologies and methods of conservative treatment is being developed.
