Abstract:Med glavne naloge slovenske policije uvrščamo zagotavljanje varnosti ljudi in premoženja, vzdrževanje javnega reda in miru, odkrivanje in preiskovanje kaznivih dejanj, nadzorovanje državne meje ter nadzorovanje in urejanje cestnega prometa.

Title:Comparison of motor ability tests in Slovene police and other police forces
Abstract:Some of the main tasks of Slovenian police force are ensuring the security of people and property, enforcing public order, discovering and investigating criminal actions, controlling the borders, and controlling and managing road traffic. In order to be able to tackle these tasks, police officers have to be in excellent physical shape. To assess the physical fitness of its officers, the Slovenian police uses a test of physical capabilities during the course of training and employment with the police. This test is used to assess motor abilities which are considered to significantly affect the police officers’ successful work performance. In the diploma thesis, we presented the problem of poor physical preparedness of police officers and the importance of police officers' well-developed motor abilities for quality performance at work. We described the Slovenian police force, followed by motor abilities and physical capabilities tests of the Slovenian police force, Addison police force from Texas, and the Hong Kong police force. After introducing the tests they use, we compared them. Our objective was to find out whether there are differences in the motor abilities tests, whether the tests encompass all motor abilities, and what the standards of each police force are in terms of successfully passing the test. We have discovered that the Slovenian test of physical capabilities differs compared to the foreign ones. Different police forces use different tests and criteria to measure specific motor abilities, while some motor abilities are also overlooked. We believe that the physical capabilities test of the Slovenian police force is well-structured, because it encompasses a wide range of motor abilities. Candidates have to possess good physical fitness to reach the necessary standard.
