Title:Aspects about microorganisms
Abstract:People can have problems with the visualization of objects and processes, and a very frequent situation that occurs during lessons is that children, on their own, cannot form a correct visualization of the objects that are being taught, especially, if they are based only on verbal descriptions. Therefore, the help of a teacher to form correct perceptions is crucial. To achieve that a teacher has to exploit all the options that are offered by traditional and modern technology. Especially difficult to visualize are objects and processes with which pupils do not have direct experiences or cannot be sensed by our organs which applies to most microorganisms. Microorganisms are an important factor for the course of life on Earth. They have a direct and an indirect influence on many aspects of human life and activities. Among the more important negative effects is their influence on health, on the deterioration of food and on the destruction of goods. Their positive influence is the importance they have for symbiotic organisms in the digestive system or on the skin and in relation to biotechnical processes. Because they are omnipresent and because their influence, both positive and negative, is substantial, they present one of the most important parts in school curriculums and in (different) forms of informal acquisition of knowledge. The purpose of this dissertation was to determine the level of expertise about microorganisms and about the knowledge and perception about them.
