Abstract:Izhodišče in namen: Delovne obremenitve in stres so na delovnem mestu vedno večji problem, saj zmanjšujejo storilnost delavca, povzročajo absentizem, izgorelost ter pojav številnih zdravstvenih težav.

Title:Nurses' workload and stress in the treatment of patients with lung cancer
Abstract:Background and Purpose: Workload and stress at work are becoming increasingly problematic as they decrease the workers’ productivity, increase absence, burnout and occurrence of numerous health problems. The purpose of this dissertation in to present workloads and stress in healthcare professionals when treating lung cancer patients from the psychological, physical and social environment perspective. Research methods: The study was based on a quantitative work method. We performed a cross-sectional study and used a survey questionnaire. The survey questionnaire consisted of three parts. The first part included demographic data, the second statements in the field of studying stress, and the third statements in the field of studying workloads. Results: In the final part we confirmed that workloads and stress are positively related (r=0.785, p< 0.01). We have established that the larger the workloads, the greater the stress in healthcare professionals treating lung cancer patients. There were no statistically significant differences between the degree of education of healthcare professionals and the level of stress (r=0.597, p=0.552). Healthcare professionals with an occupational record up to 20 years have assessed workloads as larger than those employed for more than 20 years (t=2.513, p=0.014). Although there is not statistically significant difference in the level of stress and occupational record, both groups assessed them as medium (t=0.382, p=0.704). Discussion and Conclusion: Healthcare professionals treating lung cancer patients are often exposed to stress, as cancer is a disease affecting a person not only physically but also mentally. Working with lung cancer patients is very demanding. The patients require a lot of diligent care to recover as much and as fast as possible.
