Abstract:Posamezna Mongolska plemena so se v 12. stoletju povezala v enotno državno tvorbo.

Title:Kublai khan`s court through the eyes of two Christian travellers
Abstract:In the 12th century, individual Mongol tribes joined and formed a united state-like formation. The world knew them as pillagers and conquerors. Under the leadership of some of their great rulers, like Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan, they soon settled almost all of Asia and started to control the trade routes between East and West. The Silk Road was used not only by merchants with various goods, but also by travellers. One of those was Marco Polo, who encountered Kublai Khan while travelling with his father. Kublai Khan and Marco Polo formed a great relationship that lead to Kublai Khan entrusting young Marco Polo with important positions, and by making him his emissary, enabled him to travel to different parts of Asia. Marko Polo's journals about the time he spent with the Khan and travelling across Asia provide a valuable insight into the organization of Kublai's court and the life of the people in the state that was governed by Mongols. The connection between the East and the West, that started to strengthen after the arrival of Marco Polo in China, was also successful in another way. From the East of the continent, more accurately from China, another traveller, Rabban Sauma, was traveling towards Europe. Wishing to deepen his faith, he decided to embark on a journey that, at the wish of the Mongol ruler in Persia, became an emissary mission. He was a Nestorian Monk, a member of the Eastern Church, and he travelled to catholic Europe in search of connections between Persia and Europe, hoping to find allies in fighting a common enemy, Islam. Both travellers were successful in their own way and contributed to opening both halves of the world. The west side, Europe, was willing to listen to the east side, Middle East and Asia, and the Mongols, after a series of early successful attacks on Europe, abandoned conquering thoughts and weaved threads of respect and mutual acceptance with Europe.
