Abstract:Danes si življenje brez glasbe le stežka predstavljamo, saj nas spremlja skoraj povsod.

Title:Terminological analysis of user manuals for musical instruments and equipment: first contact between user and instrument
Abstract:Nowadays, we can hardly imagine our lives without music, since it accompanies us almost everywhere. In addition to people who deal with music professionally, be it as music teachers in schools, musicians on stage or assistants in music shops, more and more individuals are choosing to devote their free time to this activity. Especially when purchasing an instrument for the first time, user manuals for the use of instruments and music equipment are indispensable. The quality translations of these texts are essential for the user`s understanding of the instrument and its functions. Music equipment is available almost everywhere, including in non-specialized shops, such as supermarkets (Lidl, Hofer, etc.). In our master thesis, we compared translations of user manuals, which are provided to customers by specialized and non-specialized shops, and determined their suitability. Focus was place on technical terminology, its uniformity, comprehensibility, orientation towards source culture, etc. as well as on terminological, stylistic, orthographic and grammatical mistakes. The analysed examples revealed that the translations of user manuals obtained from specialized shops are far more suitable than those from non-specialized shops. We carried out a terminological analysis of web pages for music shops, which showed that the terminology in translating and categorizing electronic keyboard instruments is rather non-uniform. A survey way included in the master thesis which aimed to determine whether there is any semantic difference between the words "instrument" and "inštrument" since this issue has never been addressed in any orthographic manual. The survey results, however, revealed that the two words carry different meaning in public use. Moreover, we have pust together a German-Slovenian glossary as a future reference for translating texts connected to music.
Keywords:translation, user manuals, musical instruments and music equipment, instruments, keyboards, technical texts, technical translation.
