Abstract:Diplomsko delo prikazuje študijo nevtralizacije bazičnih nečistoč ujetih v kristalni strukturi materiala s pomočjo ogljikovega dioksida v aluminijevem oksidu in hidroksidu.

Title:Use of CO2 to reduce the concentration of alkali and alkaline earth metals in aluminum oxide and hydroxide
Abstract:The diploma work presents a study of neutralization of basic impurities caught in the crystalline structure of the material with carbon dioxide in aluminum oxide and hydroxide. To remove these impurities, various concentrated acids, such as HCl, H2SO4, HNO3, are currently used in industrial processes. Acids help to neutralize basic impurities, so they can be eliminated as salts in the solution. With filtration and washing of the material the impurities are afterwards removed with water. The results indicate that impurities can also be neutralized in a way, that carbon dioxide takes on the role of a weak acid, thus eliminating basic impurities in environmentally friendly way. Using different analytical methods we analyzed the materials. After neutralization with this method, only aluminum oxide complied with the standard material specifications. We also tested the method on pilot line and found that the method is suitable for industrial use.
