Abstract:Preiskovanje sumljive smrti zahteva skrbno, pozorno in individualno obravnavo dogodka ter sodelovanje vseh deležnikov, ki sodelujejo pri ogledu kraja dejanja. Najpogosteje so bile poškodbe v predelu podlahti, leve predkomolčne kotanje in levega zapestja.

Title:Suicides with sharp and/or pointed objects in central, western and southeastern Slovenia
Abstract:Investigating suspicious deaths requires careful, cautious and individual treatment of the event, as well as the participation of all stakeholders involved in the investigation of a crime scene. Findings of a forensic expert on the circumstances of the event, i.e. about the time and manner of death, the characteristics of injuries and used assets (weapons or objects) are crucial for the direction of a further criminal investigation. The trilemma that appears when investigating the suspicion of violent death is whether the circumstances of the event indicate an accident, suicide or homicide. We should not exclude the possibility of the fingered event. The master thesis outlines the findings of research of the circumstances of suicide with a sharp and/or pointed object, which was carried out at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. We reviewed autopsy reports with the related documentation in the period between 2008 and 2018, and among them, we selected suicides with a sharp and/or pointed object. During the analysed period, 111 deceased of suicide with a sharp and/or pointed object (87 men and 24 women) were examined at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Ljubljana, among which 49.5% committed simple and 50.5% complex suicide. The most common combination of complex suicide were sharp force injuries (cuts or stab wounds) with hanging (45.2%). Even though male dominate the sample data, statistically, we could not prove it. We found that injuries were most commonly caused by undefined sharp objects (42.3%), while the kitchen knives were dominated by the exact defined ones (17.1%). We have shown that most injuries were located on the left half of the body, reflecting our assumption that this side of the body, due to dominance right hand, is more affordable. Most commonly, the injuries were in the area of the forearms, the left cubital aria, and the left wrist. Suicides with a sharp and/or pointed object were most likely committed at home (65.8%), and deceased were more often under the influence of psychoactive drugs as under the influence of alcohol.
