Abstract:Magistrsko delo profilira ustvarjanje koroškega kantavtorja Milana Kamnika v kontekstu kantavtorja in hkrati sodobnega ljudskega pevca. Kantavtor je solistično delujoč glasbenik, poet, interpret, avtor in izvajalec lastnih pesmi, njegova podoba sega daleč v zgodovino in se v svojih značilnostih prepleta z vplivi davnega dvorskega trubadurstva, francoskega šansona, ljudske umetnosti, z zgodnjim obdobjem nemškega samospeva in glasbenih akterjev ameriške preporodne ljudske glasbe.

Title:Singer-Songwriter as a Folk Artist; On the example of Milan Kamnik
Abstract:This Master’s thesis profiles the creation of the Carinthian singer-songwriter Milan Kamnik in the context of a singer-songwriter as well as a contemporary folk singer. A singer-songwriter is a solo acting musician, poet, interpreter, author and performer of his own songs. Its image reaches far back in history, and with its features it intertwines with influences of bygone courtly troubadourism, the French chanson, folk art, early periods of the German Lied and of musical actors of American Folk-Revival. He is a hybrid between a literate, musician, humanist and performer. Discussions revolved around the question, ‘’Who is the modern folk musician?’’ are increasing in frequency as a result of experts finding out, that older definitions of agents and elements of folk art are not primarily relevant anymore. The modern relatives of folk musicians and singers act similar to their ancestors, but up to this point we have not succeeded in finding or exactly naming the musicians, that society currently needs and ideologically processes as a folk singer. Milan Kamnik is a Slovene-Carinthian singer-songwriter, who became famous for his songs written in Slovene-Carinthian dialect and for poetising of works from the local author Prežihov Voranc. He proudly uses the Slovene-Carinthian dialect in at least a third of his repertoire. His recognition boarders on Slovene-Carinthia, where he has most impact in form of a broad cultural-identity meaning.
