Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Opravljanje poklica v zdravstveni negi, je pogosto naporno.

Title:Abuse of hypnotics among nursing staff after night shifts
Abstract:Introduction: Being employed in nursing care can sometimes be really difficult. A lot of nursing staff works three shifts, which can lead into sleeping problems after coming home from night shifts. Taking a sleeping pill is a simple temporary solution, but not a smart one. Methods: In the making of our diploma work we used a descriptive method and quantitative methodology with anonymous questionnaire. Our research sample included 150 nursing care workers of all levels of education in three different areas, surgical, internistic and psychiatric. Results: Although more than half of the respondents (52,2 %) believe that the use of the hypnotics is spread among nursing staff, we discovered that the use of hypnotics is quite low, with only 14,7% users among all respondents, which represents less than one sixth off all respondents. We also found out that the usage is lower (2,1 %) in psychiatric field, where nursing staff are exposed to addiction and the consequences of abuse. Disscussion: We discovered that less than one sixth of the respondents are using sleeping pills. We also discovered that the usage of sleeping pills is lower in psychiatric field. Lack of quality sleep can more often lead to work mistakes that we want to avoid, as they can endanger human life. With hypnotic usage we only increase the risk of work errors, because they affect our nerve system, especially when taken too late to be eliminated from your body.
