Title:The withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union
Abstract:By taking part in a referendum, the citizens of the United Kingdom have expressed their will to exit the European Union. After years of economic connections and liberalisation of international flows of production factors, the British government’s eventual realization of the withdrawal from the integration would be a new milestone in history. As the international trade of the United Kingdom is focused on the European market, for sure, setting up trade borders would mean problematic consequences for both sides. The exit of such a high-developed country has never happened before, therefore the evaluation of consequences is uncertain and going hand in hand with predictions of a high range. The empirical studies on Brexit predict a much lower level of United Kingdom’s long-term economic output. The impact on British economy will be noticed in various fields, such as foreign trade flows, economic activity of exposed sectors, immigrations from the European Union, and foreign direct investments. Considering possible future cooperation models, the conclusion the United Kingdom possesses no efficient model comparable to the existing one is more than clear. Every single model of leaving the European Union results whether in advantages or sacrifices for both partners. A negative impact on the economy of the United Kingdom is the only outstanding common characteristic of all Brexit models.
Keywords:Brexit, The United Kingdom, The European Union, disintegration.
